We've Been Given a Name
Welcome
Prayer
God of grace,
We open our hearts, minds and souls to worship to you.
Thank you that today we dwell in your kingdom and live in your presence.
Thank you that as we gather together we join with all Christians
across the world to glorify your holy name.
Come be with us, inspire us and lead us in our time together.
We ask all this in the beautiful name of Jesus. Amen
Scripture Reading
6 The Pharisees went out and immediately held counsel with the Herodians against him, how to destroy him. 7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him. 9 And he told his disciples to have a boat ready for him because of the crowd, lest they crush him, 10 for he had healed many, so that all who had diseases pressed around him to touch him. 11 And whenever the unclean spirits saw him, they fell down before him and cried out, “You are the Son of God.” 12 And he strictly ordered them not to make him known. 13 And he went up on the mountain and called to him those whom he desired, and they came to him. 14 And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach 15 and have authority to cast out demons. 16 He appointed the twelve: Simon (to whom he gave the name Peter); 17 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder); 18 Andrew, and Philip, and Bartholomew, and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus, and Simon the Zealot, 19 and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.

There have been many moments in history where fear and uncertainty have reigned through wars, plagues, droughts, and genocides. And yet, Christianity grew. Why? Because as followers of Jesus, we believe differently, therefore we live differently. We know that our hope is not in this world or in people. It is important that in this moment we keep our eyes on who God says he is and who he says we are. That then propels us to love and have purpose. The song, This I Believe, comes from creeds that Christians have been saying together for thousands of years. I am sure these creeds were sung and spoken through many uncertain and horrible times in history. How powerful is it that we get to proclaim these words in this moment in history as we fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfector of our faith.
Offering
Offering is a form of worship. Here is a testimony from one of our family members this past week.
Just wanted to encourage ya’ll to keep tithing or giving in whatever manner you were. I know for us it was a little nerve wracking...most of my work has been put on hold suddenly over the last two weeks and we don’t know how long that will last. There is some temptation to save the money we have and stop giving for a while. But I have to say, when we hit “submit” on the online giving, I felt a whole lot of relief. You’d think the feeling would be an increase of fear ( that money is gone) but instead there is just a whole lot of comfort in handing that off to the Lord. It’s a great gift from God that we can hand our financial burdens off to him and say “look God whether we have more than enough or not enough to make ends meet, we trust you. This is yours and we have faith that you are going to take care of it." -Anonymous
Final Thoughts
Spend a few moments praying out loud.
- Thank the Lord for his faithfulness in the midst of the crisis
- Intercede for the needs of the world, your community, and individuals
- Pray for Kingdom opportunities to be a helper
